DUBAL contributes some AED 2.2 billion to Dubai’s economy every year. In 2004, this equated to 5% of the city’s Gross Domestic Product (“GDP”) and 33 per cent of the industrial sector's USD 4 billion contribution to Dubai's GDP. It also represented approximately 5 per cent of the country’s non-oil revenue (28 per cent of the manufacturing sector) and 1.6 per cent of the national GDP.
DUBAL also accounts for the largest share of Dubai's non-oil exports. In December 2004, it represented 45 per cent of Dubai’s exports by value; and 4 per cent of Dubai Ports Authority's total tonnage of non-oil throughput.
DUBAL has consistently supported the growth and development of local service/supplier companies. Expansion projects undertaken in 2004 and 2005 contributed significantly to the local economy, generating work opportunities valued at more than USD 157 million for local contractors and suppliers, which represents roughly 21 per cent of the total project values for the two years.
The expansion of the Potlines 5b and 6b, constructed at a cost of USD 236 million, resulted in USD 135.7 million (55 percent) local spend over the period June 2006 to February 2008.
Many companies that work with DUBAL claim that the experience helps enhance their quality standards, which is instrumental in helping them secure new business opportunities elsewhere.
