Charities & Donations

DUBAL is wholly committed to supporting worthy and charitable activities in the community.

The generosity and goodwill of DUBAL employees became apparent during two recent global crises. Following the tsunami, which struck south-east Asia in December 2004, employees collected more than AED 300,000, which was donated to the Red Crescent Society to help victims of the natural disaster.

DUBAL employees also responded quickly to support victims of the earthquake that struck northern Pakistan and the Kashmir region in October 2005, collecting substantial cash donations.

Wheelchairs for Kids

Thanks to the encouragement of ex-DUBAL employee, Glyn Ashley, DUBAL recently provided funds to support Wheelchairs for Kids, a charity organization based in Western Australia. The charity builds wheelchairs to support children around the world who are physically challenged and would not have access to a wheelchair without its intervention.

Initially Wheelchairs for Kids used old bicycle frames to construct the chairs. Although they were crude, they enabled a large number of children to lead better lives. Today, the chairs are built by retirees, aged 55 to 85, using box section aluminium and BMX wheels. Over the years, the organization has built more and distributed more than 8,100 units and shipped them to children in 53 countries around the world.

Computers for UAE Students

In 2005, DUBAL donated 150 computers to schools in the Dubai Education Zone, to help create a progressive and stimulating learning environment. DUBAL also agreed to support the installation of the systems.

Meanwhile, Microsoft, through its Partners in Learning Programme, ensured that the donated computers were properly licensed and installed Windows 2000 and Office Works in each unit.

DUBAL officials say the initiative will be expanded to support the needs of schools throughout the UAE in the future.
