Commitment to Nationalisation

DUBAL is committed to providing career opportunities for UAE Nationals. At the end of 2008, UAE Nationals represented 22 per cent of DUBAL's total workforce and more than 70 per cent of its senior management.

Five pre-employment training programmes, ranging from six months to four years in duration, prepare UAE school leavers and other qualifying Nationals for Maintenance and Operations positions in the smelter, power station and desalination plant. The training provides on-the-job skills, support in core subject areas including English language skills, Mathematics, Science and other related academic subjects. In addition, an on-site Open Learning Unit provides National employees with ongoing opportunities to develop their technical knowledge and gain additional academic qualifications.

Programmes for Nationals

Graduate Training Programme

Selected graduates complete an 18-month on-the-job training programme that enables them to assume a role as one of DUBAL'S first line supervisors.

Eligibility Criteria

Pre-Employment Course (Smelter) Programme

This six-month training programme provides trainees with both theoretical knowledge and practical on-the-job work experience. On successful completion of the training programme graduates are offered employment as full-time Utility Operators and will be allocated to a specific smelter area.

Eligibility Criteria

Pre-Employment Course (Craft/Apprentice) Programme

This four-year accredited training programme provides trainees with theoretical knowledge and practical on-the-job work experience.  The four years take place within DUBAL, covering theory and practical on-the-job work experience in the electrical, mechanical or instrumentation field. On successful completion course graduates are offered employment as a full-time Maintenance Craftsmen in the specific disciplines.

During the training period, trainees are expected to demonstrate, through written and practical tests, their ability to achieve pre-set percentage pass marks to remain in the course.

Eligibility Criteria

Pre-Employment Course (Power/Desalination) Programme

This one-year training programme provides trainees with both theoretical knowledge and practical on-the-job work experience. On successful completion of the training programme course graduates are offered employment as full-time Assistant Desalination or Power Operators, depending on the programme followed.

Eligibility Criteria

Pre-Employment Course (Technical) Programme

This one-year training programme provides trainees with both theoretical knowledge and practical on-the-job work experience. On successful completion course graduates are offered employment in one of DUBAL's technical departments to gain further experience.

Eligibility Criteria

Pre-Employment Course (Administrator) Programme

This one-year training programme provides trainees with both theoretical knowledge and in-house training courses. On successful completion of the training programme, course graduates are offered employment as a full-time administrator.
